Wrote an article about the value of "realness" in the age of AI

Yearn will win because they have the best teams/partners and it appears to me they are actually scaling while remaining decentralized

Like any technology there can be lots of different inputs and outputs. I think it is safe to say that Roland and the TR808, 909, 303 changed music notation, and music forever, with their popularization of grid based music programming. It may be that Ableton is doing the same with their software. Each year the tools get better to do these sorts of creative activities. The Beatles recorded Abbey Road on a giant 4 track expensive four track owned by a record label. In 1995 I saved up my money from a summer job and bought a 4-track cassette recorder for about $500. Now you can get a four track app for you mobile phone for about $5. Or download an open source one for free.

YAY :)

Maybe this is a stupid question but how does one go about verifying the information wikileaks releases is accurate?

I assume the people who submit info are verified in some way, does wikileaks then pass on that verification info to the public or are we supposed to just trust that they are providing truthful information in an unbiased way?

Wikileaks has pretty good track record. I believe so far every single one of the leaks have turned out true, or no one has challenged their authenticity.

Which is it? Your phrasing implies those are the same thing. They're not.

They're not the same, but they're pretty well indistinguishable for anyone who isn't omniscient.

The CIA has a long standing "no comment" policy when asked about the authenticity of any documents. So you can't rely on the absence of a counter-claim to prove the veracity of the documents.

I wouldn't rule out an intentional leak to spread misinformation.

> So you can't rely on the absence of a counter-claim to prove the veracity of the documents.

That's fine... but if no one is disputing the truth of something, there's no evidence whatsoever that it's false.

for many of the emails, including a lot of the important ones, we have DKIM signing proving that the body and most headers were unaltered and came from the sending domain's actual server.

For the rest, there is no absolute mathematical proof so indeed we must rely upon the lack of counter-claims of legitimacy and the validity of the presented facts themselves. Knowing how grey that area can be, WL takes great care to release only when they have high confidence their reputation can't be harmed by claims. It is certainly a higher bar than is set by the anonymous-quote-happy US press.

If folks want to move from just thinking about aesthetics, into thinking about the ideas behind your design, and how they can help you achieve your strategic goals, I recommend checking out http://brandist.co/brand-strategy-101/

Okay. I did it, paid my $10 bucks and waiting for an email. I actually run a much more expensive, competing service:

Here's Jordan's first email:

-----------------------------

Hey there,

Thanks for buying Brutal Honesty. What can I help you with? Ask away.

Cheers

Jordan

And then this is my reply:

-----------------------------

Hi Jordan,

So I was hoping to get your honest opinion on a business idea I'm working on. It's a bit similar to your business I guess.

Here's our site:

Let me know if you think this seems like total bullshit, or if it's cool.

Thanks!

Here is a free one: The "See More Creatives" link 404s hitting against makers.html

Interesting idea, I'm starting a startup consulting company and plan to be more expensive but laser focused on early stage startups with < 10 employees. How has the initial reaction been towards your service? Do you have customers?

One thing I've noticed as a freelance developer is that people are more willing to commit to per project contracts rather than hourly. I wonder if that's the case with a service such as yours where it's a one time deal.

You have a broken link:

On your site, in viewports less than 768px wide, the header background image disappears, leaving a light background that makes the text very difficult to read. The image should probably not disappear, and the background-color should also be changed to something dark like the image, so that in case the image doesn’t load the text will still be legible.

Thanks for catching that!

Interesting. Will you be sharing your email/conversation with him?

Sure, what the heck.

Awesome! It will be cool to see what his response is to a business idea that is somewhat similar to the service he is providing you.

It's interesting if he notices that the email conversation will be shared here and therefore puts extra effort into his answer.

Branding is not some nebulous dark art. There is a process, that can be followed methodically. Each person will execute the details differently, but the gist of it will be the same. Figure out what business you are in. Find your competitors and know how you are different. Determine who your customers are, and why they should care about your business.
