I disagree on this, there are plenty of problems in accounting that an LLM can help with.
I’ve built some software[0] that analyses general ledgers and uses LLMs to call out any compliance issues by looking at transaction and account descriptions.
Is it perfect, nope. But it’s a hell of a lot better than sifting through thousands of transactions manually which accountants do and get wrong all the time.
Some specific examples (like the one you mentioned, _adjacent_ to accounting per se) don't disprove the main point that 100% accuracy is fundamentally impossible with LLMs, while critical for all key accounting aspects.
> But it’s a hell of a lot better than sifting through thousands of transactions manually which accountants do and get wrong all the time.
I still wonder why humans getting things wrong is a problem, but LLMs getting more things more wrong more often than humans never is. At the very least you'll need a human accountant around to verify the LLM. Or I guess you could just practice "vibe accountancy" and hope things work out but that seems like a worse idea than a trained human professional. But I'm probably just a Luddite.
Also, I am admittedly not an accountant, but I don't think they manually sift through every transaction to verify compliance issues in every single case. That probably isn't how that works.
I weigh the economic value against the lives I believe is going to ruin and the damage I believe is going to do to society and the future of the human race and I do not find value there. I find ruin
There might be a way for us to adopt AI as a tool without bringing ruin to many people, but I don't believe that is the goal of anyone building AI.
As it stands, I don't believe there is anything ethical about AI in it's current form. So from that perspective, I vehemently deny there is any value in it
At one point in history, people like you were asking why anyone could be anti-slavery. After all, it was impossible to deny the economic value of slaves.
Accept the brutal truth - developer is never the customer the whole infra is optimized for. Nobody (including other developers) gives a single f. how easy or hard your life is.
This is where every big corporation ends up inevitably.
You are not depressed because you don’t care about your work.
You don’t care about your work because you’re depressed.
Same with everything else.
Your brain will show you opposite rationalizations if you’re really depressed.
This doesn’t mean you can’t influence it by changing external factors.
This means you need to take it seriously and find a good psychiatrist to help with it. Not random dudes on the internet who think their boredom is a depression and brag how they fight it with gym.

So, you're seeing a depression as an external "illness" that can only be cured by pharmeceutical compounds?
I can only speak for myself, but to me that was dangerous advice. it removed accountability for my actions. the only thing that helped was getting into new actions. actively changing small things.
i was diagnosed with severe depression more than once in my life. things started to change for me only when I stopped believing this narrative.
a psychiatrist will give you pills, a psychologist will talk to you with a "playbook", both will try do bring some predefined indexes of clinical depression down. nothing of this is tailored to your personality.
because you mentioned it: gym does not change everything miraculously (neither do pills), but it taught me that my actions have significant effect. going through a perceived hamster wheel all the time, that realization was a big step forward to me. i did things that i did not want (like meeting people, applying for jobs, etc.). that helped, and it gets easier with each step.
I think it's outright disrespectful to just assume people in such circumstances are just looking for external factors to step out of responsibility. Have you ever thought that they do want to make a move, but just cant because their minds are broken?
you cant apply the "you actually just have to step up and get out of your comfort zone" advice to people whose minds are severely altered by their condition. You fix the condition first, or give a remedy, then when they start to get a grip on things you move to making changes to get them out of the situation
thank god you only speak for yourself, please keep it that way
Of course it’s not black and white. But the more concious control you have over some problem - the more it is your own laziness or stupidity rather than an illness that needs to be treated by professionals. Generally speaking.
For me, talking about my childhood to someone that was non-judgemental helped me far more than lifting weight. But that was for me. I'm glad you found your way.
Yes, sure, there is more than one way (maybe even as many ways as patients). My point was not about gym or not, it was about the idea that depression is something that is totally outside of one's own control.
What is the big deal exactly? How is that any different from regular surveillance cameras, facial recognition on passport machines or by officers? Why aren’t you worried that an officer will steal your “data”? Or an airline will leak it.
I really dream of the day they bring Android to trash bin and instead of kicking the dead horse come up with something new and good, after learning from mistakes.
Why do you want to jump through these ridiculous hoops to ruin your soul and mind by working a meaningless job under an incompetent manager in the first place?
Your motivation lies in the answer if you have any.
Money alone is not a motivating answer unfortunately, because our subconscious (soul if you will) truly does not care about money and wealth itself.
But unfortunately again it is the only real sustainable source of our motivation.
There are companies that do not do this shit or at least do very basic just to make sure you’re not a fake programmer. Why do you need motivation to learn leetcode simple? It’s mostly a very basic CS and something you should know already as a developer.
And it is a very poor fit for moderm LLM based AI. Because accuracy. No mistakes or hallucinations allowed.
