Excellent point with regard to dev tools not being a successful LT investment, with Oracle being an exception. I find Atalassia being sellers of dev "app", a standalone final product rather than a component in an overall solution that is effectively tax on every copy.
Productivity and true isolation, even somethingas as minor as window size/placement... wouldn't replace VS Code, Slack or Spotify clients, they simply do more.

Pretty much. If something is theoretically possible it needs to be defended against. I'm sure there's no shortage of people that could have looked at the requirements and figured out how to make it break, but Boeing outsourced.

Not all models are seamless in ThinkPad land. My X240 has Realtek wireless and it refused to work with any kernel earlier than 3.16 (Ubuntu < 14.10). Recognized on recent ones, but can't resume from Suspend.
