Out of curiosity, what did you segue into from the second youth, or are you still in it? Those phases seem fun but potentially hard to get out of, either because you don't want to or because you've lost the legibility that employers and potentially love interests want.
There's also the related failure mode of deciding you're going to fix all your other system problems as part of the migration, bloating the scope and creating too much complexity. Just do the necessary stuff, migrate, and then go back and fix the nice to haves.
I'm not a lawyer, but if you've been using it commercially, I believe you have the trademark. Theoretically, you could sue them for infringement, although I don't know whether you could claim damages or just get them to stop using it.
Ride sharing as a whole isn't going away. It's better than calling a cab or whatever used to be. But I could see Uber and Lyft each ending up as $5-10 B software layers on top of driving, not $50-100 B ones.
I don't think you need to be social at all, but it is helpful to have meaningful work samples for potential employers to evaluate. Github's just the easiest place to put those. It's similar to a design portfolio for a designer or writing sample for a writer. Otherwise, people end up making decisions based on their interview impressions, which can be very inaccurate.
