This is such a beautifully written story with it's own kind of elegance. Love it!

Thanks for the feedback. It's true that our home page is not very descriptive. We did this because most of our traffic has been referrals and google searches in this technology space. But you do bring up a good point and we will look in to seeing how we can add more info to create a different impression.

Thanks for asking. We don't plan on supporting it. The main reasons are two-fold. The first is that we don't want to confuse the market and consumers by allowing too many choices and so we decided on QR Code. The Second, and more important reason is that QR Code is by far the most prevalent type being used and AFAIK there isn't a scanner out there that only supports Data Matrix and not QR Code. QR Code also has better error correction capabilities which is important for things in the wild.

Do u go to Waterloo? I'm an alumn there and have been through this many times.

My advice is that your first few jobs are very important. I have done countless interviews (as an interviewer) myself and when it comes to selecting students to interview, the coversheet with the companies you worked for and the titles on them usually count the most. So if you want to be a dev and get leg up on the competition then make sure that you get a dev job as soon as you can and this way you can jump ahead of the curve. I have seen a lot of people take an IT job early in their co-op careers and they paid for that mistake later. But all said and done, no matter what happens its what you make of it. Let me know if you want some hints on how to get noticed. There area lot of things that you can do to stand-out and get noticed.

In principle, here are the basic 3 steps.

1. Submit kick-ass resume that gets noticed and selected. 2. Interview for the job. 3. Negotiate terms of your offer. This is more-so for FTE, but interns can negotiate a lot of things too if they choose to do so.

To answer your question though, do you think that this company can help you learn and explore an area that you are interested in? If so, then go for it. Co-op is the time to explore and really go out there and try things out with little risk and to network. My biggest regret from my co-op was not going to Europe, Japan, and other places for opportunities. I did 5/6 of my internships in the US and I felt that really hampered the opportunities that I would have had now if I went further out.

Good Luck!

Very cool indeed! That's a good point about admin pages. Perhaps you can have some kind of flag or config setting so that we can set which pages or directories we don't want to be captured.

I have a question about SSL sessions. The video mentioned that replays are done through you since the web page is crawled, so are you spoofing and logging in as the user in order to do the logged in pages?

I have a few theories and quick ideas on this..

For starters, are you partnering with any other companies? I think the synergy of having working relationships with other companies are a great asset since they will actively promote you while you promote them and so on.

Secondly, do you have any viral aspects / proposition for your site? I haven't seen it so I can't tell.. But if you positioned yourself such that a small niche group must have and use your site then I think that's a great start since the group will be self-replicated the newly spawned groups will self-replicate more, hence viral.

Thirdly, have you looked at the discoverability of your site? Look for patterns of how your users are finding you and how they are not.

Last, SEO is the hot term for these days and I think for a good reason. Imagine if I did a google search for something related to music and your social website always shows up as #1 / #2 in the search results? I have a lot of ideas on how this can be done.. but I guess I'll try it out on our stealthy startup first.. and if it works and we become widly successful then I will defintely blog and share about it. =).

I just got an email this morning from a Google recruiter (I'm serious) asking if I was interested in a software position there. From that I would say that they are still actively hiring.

That's so badass! This car has always been one of my favs.

We applied during the last cycle and didn't get accepted. We forged ahead (Were doing this regardless if we are a part of YC or not), started prototyping, networking, and solidified our business vision and plan.

We applied again this cycle and got accepted for an interview. Our YC application has changed a bit since we now have a much more focused direction, but our technology stack has been pretty much the same from day one.

I hope that this can be an encouragement to those of you who didn't get it this time, but I'm sure that if you try again you can only increase your chances. BTW, last time we applied we did it fairly last minute and I missed an email from pg asking us some questions. This time, we applied a month in advance and I checked my YC mail daily so I wouldn't make that mistake again. And yes, he did email us some questions again but this time I replied on time. =).

Thanks! Same here, mine was in my GMail spam folder.
