what a silly notion.

Long term impact of Iran war is that they expand UAE-Oman pipelines to bypass Hormuz.

This doesn't work as long as hostilities continue, since as we've seen so far, pipelines are extremely vulnerable to drone and cruise missile attack.

And/or ramp up production in other countries not dependent on the strait. One way or the other the market will eventually react to stabilize prices, it just takes a while (years) for the infrastructure necessary to do that to be built.

This situation reminds me of when I quit cigarettes because I got really sick, and then after a few months of recovery, I asked myself "Do I really want to start smoking again?"

No, I did not, so I did not.

I don't think we are going cold turkey, but Trump probably couldn't have given the green movement a better gift.

There has been a tendency for each of the last 4 presidents to do the opposite of their campaign slogans. GW Bush was "Compassionate conservatism" in 2000, and then he started 2 wars and radically expanded both the federal budget deficit and the federal government. In 2004 it was "A safer world and a more hopeful America", and look where we are now. Obama's 2008 slogans included "Change", "Hope", and "Yes we can", and then we got more of the same, proving that no we couldn't. His 2012 slogan was "Middle class first", and then 2012-2016 featured the evisceration of the middle class. Biden's 2020 slogans were "Build back better", "Restore the soul of the nation", and "Our best days still lie ahead", and none of those seem particularly descriptive of what actually happened 6 years later (though I'll grant that the Biden presidency was a normalcy reprieve after COVID and Jan 6).

Donald Trump's slogans were "Make America Great Again" and "Drill baby drill", and so of course he's been destroying America and kickstarting the green revolution through high oil prices.

It would be ironic if after decades of leaders talking climate crisis but not doing anything that caused global fossil fuel use to stop rising, president "Global Warming Scam" ends up getting it to fall through military incompetence.

And Iran can’t hit those? What’s the timeline to build?

Iran can hit any pipeline on the peninsula if they have an accurate enough weapon (or get lucky) and it's not shot down. Their weapon ranges covers the entire Arabian Peninsula.

Iran can hit them.

Yup. I think my xubuntu install dates back to early 2010s. I upgrade to 04s, it works.

I can't believe that actually works? This is far more interesting than the half baked ML idea.

Edit: Thanks to your link I've now learned about the zigzag transformer which is yet another design that somehow feels like cheating reality. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zigzag_transformer

idk why you think "nation states" are any better at corporate governance than poster examples of bad like f/ex Boeing. Or Facebook. Or Microsoft. Or Enron for that matter.

I assure you, in "nation states", that is in gov agencies it's an order or two of magnitude worse.

Did you ditch nginx for the same reason?

I remember the time when I did not need any fancy frameworks, webfonts, tons of JS and effin cdns to present my thoughts to the world.

This time is now. Your bickering about how to more efficienty bloat a page is... pitiful.

Doesn't matter. They're instututionally incapable to rising back to the art of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", so it's all water under the bridge.

Radioactivity has nothing to do with it.

Was solved in Mi-6/Mi-8/Mi-26 blades without it.

I saw they moved to composite blades but why don't they need such a warning system?

Would be actually interesting to know how other helicopters solved this. :)

Spy vs Spy touch is very nice. Thank you.

Thank you, they are most definitely my favorite!
