Honestly being in the room I didn't feel screamed at. I felt like we finally got to the real reason why he was passionate about this problem/company. We just had a wade through all the "pitch stuff". I still think he ID'd a huge widespread problem that we still need a solution for.
I probably would have funded the guy (haven't seen the graveyard myself doing these interviews over the years, TBF), too, or at least kept in touch, as mwseibel did. The article made it sound like this wasn't lashing out in an inflammatory way, it was impassioned frustration.
And for every single self-serving puff piece out there about getting rejected from the YC interview, I'd say this one stands out as one of the few that are genuine.
I don’t get the niece problem… it’s not a lack of itinerary but a lack of time. If I had a relative / friend visit … we’ll I wouldn’t care if we had to just sit in a Starbucks or even McDonalds or do the most obvious tourist stuff as long as there is time.
Ok I think I get it. It presumes you both have made time to do the activity.
My thoughts are … well there is timeout / lonelyplanet / TripAdvisor / meetup / city subreddits etc. so there is no shortage of ways to find cool things to do from 4 yr old to 100 year old!
I have a feeling that if successful a site like mentioned would devolve into a groupon or redbaloon though as it searches for more revenue.
I think it’s time for America’s leaders to stand up and organize our citizens in order to make long lasting policy changes. Citizens are paying attention. I want there to be a great American debate about what these changes should be. The world is watching and the American system is being tested. Let’s meet the challenge and be the example we want to see in the world. Clearly America is nowhere near perfect but with effort we can improve.
I am disappointed by the lack of leadership from the white house. The president should address the nation, bring it together and create a strategy to resolve these issues.
Edit: I should say "disappointed" instead of "surprised". Agree with the responses, there is no expectation anymore from the Whitehouse after 3 years of incompetency.
What's surprising about that? I'm actually asking, not trying to provoke.
There are four years of precedent of the leadership specifically and intentionally dividing and radicalizing the nation to directly drive electoral support to maintain power. Cruelty to outside groups is historically a very effective means to consolidate power. This is completely in line with past behavior and will more than likely continue.
Liberal leadership in these communities has been in place for decades. If you want you can blame it on one side but I don't think that would be very constructive
So you want the GOP President to convince liberal strongholds such as DC, NYC and Minneapolis to be less racist? They've made it clear the do not respect him as a leader from day one. Don't really blame him for focusing elsewhere
Very excited! One of the most common questions within the YC community is which product should I use for X. As an avid user of Wirecutter for consumer items I think this approach is very interesting.
I am really excited for this startup. Opioid crisis needs to be addressed and I think this is one of the many steps that can help the people/families who are suffering.
