I am [undiagnosed] high-functioning ASD Level 1, I have high "intelligence" and very strong pattern recognition but slow "processing speed". As a result I am quickly overwhelmed by having too much information presented at once; when presented with lots of "threads" my brain tries to follow them all at once and just melts down.

As a result, Claude's default behavior (as a coding agent) is basically engineered to slow me down. Skills like this definitely help, to the extent that the agent respects them as context grows.

I have been this owner AND this employee, at different times in my career. As the employee, it's as you describe -- having goals described to the team without actual tasks being assigned to individual employees/teams is a recipe for things not getting done. As the owner (especially with a small team) nothing is more aggravating than having employees who sit around waiting to be told exactly what to do, with no real concern for how the company provides value for its customers; employees who think they're underpaid no matter how much they make and therefore do the bare minimum unless they're getting a bonus/raise/promotion.

Yeah I totally get it. In this situation you could see employees burning out because of the lack of management or leadership and the chaos of the company. Like everyone cared at first and tried real hard but eventually almost formed a learnt helpless. The implicit message was don’t try, just do the bare minimum and avoid trouble. We were also paid minimum wage. Many employees were doing unpaid hours as well.

If you provided leadership in your case then I think it’s different

I think the thing that really made it horrible is like I said. The boss would say x needs to happen but would not think through the details, buy the equipment, allocate the time or human resources. Someone still had to work out how to do those things and who was going to do what.

I dunno, my mechanic says he's recently had late-model Kias and Hyundais come into his shop needing full engine rebuilds after like 50k miles.

That might have been the case at one point, but I just bought a Framework 13 Pro with Ubuntu preinstalled.

I just bought a Pro with nothing pre-installed. I got the kit though, so the SSD was on its own box, still unopened. Maybe they pre-install if you buy it assembled?

In any case, you probably got stock Ubuntu. Anything different from that would mean you have no chance of reinstalling it and getting the same experience, or installing Fedora (which is also officially supported) and getting the same.

Why? Companies that sell Windows laptops absolutely have these figured out for various customizations they want. Those are usually shit customizations to be fair, but in this case it'd be actually useful.

Well, sort of. Technically speaking, S-Corps by definition pay no federal income tax since they're pass-through entities. If the sole shareholder of an S-Corp was an ESOP, the income is passing through to it. The ESOP has beneficiaries (the employees) whose shares sit in a trust. Income to the ESOP isn't taxed at the moment of filing, it's deferred: when the beneficiaries take distributions according to their shares, they pay ordinary income tax in that year.

I will add that voting blocs do shift. In fact, in the last two US presidential elections, retirees actually broke for the Democrat. That could have something to do with Trump or be an actual trend.

Additionally, these rich people do pay a lot of tax, they just do it through different parts of the tax code and at a lower overall rate (by avoiding social security and Medicare taxes by way of earning through long-term capital gains). On the other hand they also own more real estate than you (probably) in desirable locations and pay a lot of property tax they can't avoid.

All that notwithstanding I sense that the root of this discussion that this guy's getting excoriated for, was exploring how to short-circuit the phenomenon wherein older people, voting at higher rates (and holding office long into their old age), secure for themselves preferential benefits at the expense of struggling younger generations. The thread took off in a strange way from there, but... I guess I like where it was trying to go at the outset.
