That still doesn't explain why an external keyboard breaks. Keyboards are not exotic hardware, and they all work just fine when connected up to a mac.


If Windows Update was able to fix the problem after being reinitialized, then your original description sounds more like a Windows Update hiccup rather than an inherent driver issue.


Could be a permissions problem.

These days you can authorize Windows to log you in upon reboot so that Update the finish up.
