Yeah, I get it, even art has to follow some ground rules to begin with, but do we know what exactly is it that makes Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” such a great composition?


Music is a very different domain than visual design and we have heuristics for both that, if followed, will keep a musician or designer from composing/designing something demonstrably 'bad'. Will it be brilliant? Likely not, but "not bad" is not a bad goal to aim for.


It's helpful to deconflate art and design. Design uses artistic tools in the service of clearly defined and objective goals. It is a learned skill.
