The newest one is iPhone 8 and it will last hopefully another 5 years. Even iPhone 3G is used almost weekly with another number for ads. The phones are durable and get updates many years after purchase date. New original battery replacement costs 49€, not cheap, but it gives at least another 2 years of life for the phone.

And I don’t think that’s bad for Apple because you are still in the ecosystem, buying their services, all the while not buying a non-Apple device.
