Html pages in a folder also satisfies the "headless CMS" description. Adding RSS feeds satisfies the subscription needs too.

This seems way too overengineered.

I think it is aimed at larger sites where a CMS integrating with those other components helps the business run more efficiently.

Just use wordpress.
