You'd think they'd assign an in house project to X to build a better tool with the ability easily to migrate from Oracle. Dogfood it for a few years and then sell it to get their revenge on Larry.

That would require them to support a piece of software not directly tied to their advertising business for longer than a few years.

It would require them to foster a new venture that delivers value and can be spun off as an independent entity. That's sort of what X is about.
