Even without the GPU, it sounds like the M1 is quiet and efficient, more so than any HP/Dell/Lenovo laptop I've used. Most heat up quite quickly doing anything, and the battery life quickly drops once you go past "light web browsing".
If someone can pull off the GPU in Linux on these, I have a feeling they'll be some beastly Linux dev workstations too.
I just picked one up yesterday, I pulled it out of the box at 70 percent, installed all my crap, set it up to my liking, used it all afternoon and evening, closed the lid, went to bed, and now I'm using it to type this comment and the charger is still in the box.
