Is it not equally crazy that a single random person has the ability to make such an impact on so many systems? That's exactly what FOSS facilitates here. Again, I wouldn't do what this person did, but situations like this are a byproduct of FOSS.
Have you ever read an open source license? Most of them have something like this clause “ THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR..”
If you pull random unverified code from the internet don’t be surprised when something breaks.
The fact that you think you can just run whatever code not written by you on your servers is insane. The fact that you think protest should be able to be ignored is insane. The whole point of protest is disruption.
