Pranks destroy scam call centers (youtube.com)

I think it might be reasonable to start taking into consideration cutting off the international SIP trunk lines connecting India and the US. Or at the very least, blocking by default and making them opt-in for US subscribers. Out of hundreds of inbound calls I’ve received from Indians, NONE have been done conducted in good faith and ALL have been unsolicited.

Don't the scammers buy phone numbers that supposedly terminate in the US and then tunnel them back to their own country?

No need, the way the phone system works enables any call call center to spoof any number.

I feel ashamed as an Indian that the number of these scam call centers are on the rise but more importantly all these scammers are on video cheating people yet the Kolkata police won't take any action and they are still operational to this day.

Hopefully as more people see this maybe some high profile twitter account can tag more GOI accounts and more media picks up on this and the remaining ones are also shutdown soon.

Don't be ashamed. It's no you doing it. I know the feeling, though, I come from a country with a bad reputation, but most of us, just like most of the indians work hard and prove people we're not like the scumbags on the news.

Mark Rober is an amazing guy.

Last thing I know is he was working with the police to help people get their money back and to catch the scammers.
