The parent folder is listed as Enclosing Folder in the Go menu, you can press Command-UpArrow.

But there's a secret mouse trick, if you Command-Click any Finder window's or e.g. a Preview document's title bar, it will open a menu showing its full path.

For search, I wish it would differentiate between documents and code. I've never used ChromeOS, is its search better?
