Succeeded? I don't think he did. He ended up just getting a different apartment I thought.

I'm a little fuzzy, but wasn't he painting his kids' rooms in that house at the end of that episode?

He was repainting the living room of the apartment he was already living in. I took it to mean that he made the best of what he had.
