Microsoft wants AI to solve problems devs say they don't have (polygon.com)

That's very short sighted especially coming from technical people. Programmers and developers use software to automate, that is what apps are. Apps automate some aspect of life, work, etc. The ultimate app is of course AI, and until it becomes AGI (in the wholistic sense that it's just like another human) it's just another tool that will automate parts of development.

As someone mentioned in the article, AI won't make games faster to make necessarily. It will still be a trade-off, where AAA with AI will be a level above what we have today, with rich dialogue and more RNG, but it will be harder to implement and also control for quality.

I can definitely see a major role for ai in games, but the article suggests it will increase productivity of game development.

I'm thinking more of co-pilot helping produce code. There are certainly niches where that's useful, but writing lots of code fast isn't the essence of game development, imo.

On second read of the article, I also see your point. It's not really clear, actually, what type of ai in game development is being addressed and what point the article is trying to make.

Maybe it the article was made by some generative large language model?!

> [...] Bain & Company found that leadership believes “more than half of the video game development process will be supported by generative AI within the next five to 10 years.”

If only McKinsey, Bain&Co, EY were to rule the world of game development ;-)

? Elaborate?

Meant as a derogatory remark against hot takes from constancies.
