This is so infuriating. Why does apple think that they can dictate what companies can and cannot sell through their own stores? This is gangster mentality, plain and simple.

Epic should counter by offering Apple to put App Store on the Epic Store whilst Epic takes a cut.

Technically speaking none of these alt stores exist in the EU App Store right now, so anything that does get listed in the future is from a developer account that agreed to these terms. The way to negotiate these terms is to refuse them.

Was that ever their goal? They're more than happy to sell games from other developers on the Unreal store. I'm sure being a sort of one-stop shop for games on Mac/iOS is their ultimate goal.

Nobody has given any reason why this is a bad thing for Epic or why Epic would even make a store that only their stuff is sold on. That makes zero sense considering their PC strategy. They'll still get a cut selling third-party apps that aren't made by them.

Maybe gaming will finally take off on iOS. Downloading games from the App Store never felt right.

The vast vast majority of Apple’s App Store revenue is just games. Make of that what you will.

Gaming already makes up the lion’s share of iOS purchases, by a long shot.

I maintain that those types of games (that use manipulative loot box, gems, coins, etc) are worse than the Apple 15/30% cut itself, for Apple’s reputation.
