I read a lot of books about that period, including Hackers, iWoz and one about the early history of Microsoft. Even books such as Masters of Doom or Showstoppers kinda touch the topic implicitly.

God I so wish I were in that period, that area. There were so many possibilities that a single human could feasibly do with reasonable amount of money and reasonable amount of knowledge. Nowadays it either requires a lot of money, or a lot of brain, or both.
