To be fair, that is exactly what 2A supporters have claimed they're willing, ready and able to do, and what the 2A is intended to allow. Every single time there's a mass shooting or other such event, they're the first to start lecturing people on how that violence a price worth paying to have an armed populace around keeping the government in check, and that the threat of popular violence is the only thing keeping the government in check.
