Gaming does require more concentration. So you need to allocate x amount to play, but you feel done after a game sesh, normally. You then tend to go and do something else.
Social media is an always-on gimmick of the minute thing which screws you wholly especially when it's bombarding you with disruptive social exploits on every page.
This disruptive nature then leaves you at angst. This then manifests in to FOMO and because three seconds yay is more exciting than the reality of ten minutes of yay you then end up repeating the cycle.
I'm not a gamer, but I would think that games require close concentration over a long period, not to mention the accumulation of skills over time, just the opposite of social media
