Co-founder and field-facing CTO at Avassa, a distributed edge control plane for multi-site orchestration of containerized workloads. Before that, VP Engineering and CTO at Tail-f Systems, acquired by Cisco in 2014 for $175M. Six years at Cisco as Senior Director of Product Management running the NSO product line to $100M ARR with 150+ enterprise customers. I co-authored RFC 8199. Strong opinions about data models, no one to blame but myself.

I don't write production code. I have been in enough postmortems, design reviews, and customer escalations to know which architectural decisions come back to haunt you. The interesting problems are never in the happy path.

I follow engineering discussions at depth and explain what it means to a room of customers or executives without losing either audience. That is not common. If your company has hard technical problems and needs someone to take them outside convincingly, that is what I do. I have spoken at Edge Field Day, KubeCon, Hannover Messe, and embedded world. I served on the IETF YANG Doctors expert panel and the Linux Foundation Margo technical working group. Talking to practitioners about hard problems is as energizing as solving them.

Looking for: market-facing CTO, Field CTO, or VP Solutions Engineering at an application-layer or AI/data company. Infrastructure was the foundation, Avassa was the application layer, data and AI is the direction.

Not looking for: pure infra roles, internally-facing CTO, IC tracks.

Available for conversations now.
